MACDC Convention and 40th Anniversary

On Saturday October 29th, MACDC held our 40th Anniversary Celebration and Convention – and what a celebration it was! With more than 350 community developers gathered at Polar Park in Worcester, and 70 more on ZOOM, we provided an opportunity for people to connect, learn, celebrate, feel inspired, and exercise their collective power to shape public policy.

Thank you again to all who attended – both in person and virtually – for making this event such a success! A big thank you to all of our sponsors for their steadfast support of MACDC and the community development movement in MA!

There is so much to highlight from the event, from the inspiring awardees to the gubernatorial candidate forum, to the remarks from Governor Baker. Read on for more details about the event.

Gubernatorial Candidate Forum

A major focus of the event was a Gubernatorial Candidate Forum with Republican Geoff Diehl and Democrat Maura Healey.  The candidates appeared separately and answered a series of questions from moderator Simón Rios of WBUR News about affordable housing, community investment, and closing racial disparities in homeownership and business ownership.  Geoff Diehl promised to continue the Community Investment Tax Credit, increase funding for the Small Business Technical Assistance program and build a strong partnership with the CDC sector.  Maura Healey promised to extend and expand the CITC program, increase funding for the Small Business Technical Assistance program, partner with CDCs, expand emergency rental assistance, strengthen the Family Self Sufficiency program and work to equitably decarbonize our older housing stock.  We were so pleased to hear such strong commitment from both candidates to the community development field!
