The GOALs Report

Growing Opportunities, Assets, and Leaders across the Commonwealth

Since 2003, MACDC and our members have collaborated on a collective effort to revitalize and stabilize communities across the state. The MACDC GOALs Initiative - Growing Opportunities, Assets, and Leaders across the Commonwealth -  measures our field's annual progress in helping lead the revitalization of neighborhoods and communities across Massachusetts. Each year, we conduct a detailed on-line survey of our members to learn precisely what they have accomplished.

Community Development Corporations (CDCs) are community-controlled, nonprofit organizations that work throughout the commonwealth to build more inclusive, vibrant, and productive communities. Since their inception more than 30 years ago, Massachusetts CDCs have developed over 25,000 homes and attracted several billion dollars of investment to low- and moderate-income communities.

A Special Thanks to the MHP Center for Housing Data for Supporting MACDC's GOAL's Program.

In 2019, MACDC is highlighting the success CDCs in Massachusetts achieved, including the following results:

  • 1,724 community leaders engaged
  • 70,016 families supported with housing, jobs, or other services
  • 1,543 homes built or preserved
  • 4,162 job opportunities created or preserved
  • 1,256 entrepreneurs received technical assistance
  • $918.1 million invested in local communities in 2019 – the largest CDC investment reported since we’ve started doing the GOALs Survey!

If you really want to dig into the data, check out the GOALs Appendixes. Review in detail the tables for each survey. Conduct your own analysis down to the CDC-level.
