Green CDC Initiative

MACDC is committed to helping our members implement sustainable development practices throughout their programming, including new real estate development projects, upgrading existing buildings that they own and manage, promoting weatherization and green practices to prospective homeowners and small businesses, cleaning brownfields, undertaking transit oriented development and promoting smart growth land use development. To support our members, the MACDC Green CDC initiative partners with several different organizations to provide our members with the technical and financial resources they need. Our partners include New Ecology, Inc., Boston LISC, LEAN, Boston Community Capital, the Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance, and others.

The Initiative offers training, technical assistance and help in identifying and accessing funding for organizations pursuing environmentally sound and sustainable development projects. So far, more than a third of our members have participated in this Initiative. The Initiative also conducts research on best practices and advocates with lenders and government agencies to adopt policies that will better support sustainable community development. Our most recent achievement is the establishment of a new utility funded program to provide grants to non profit affordable housing organizations to weatherize their rental housing developments.
