MACDC Accomplishments
For the past twenty-five years, MACDC has been one of the largest and most successful statewide CED associations in the country. We have effectively advocated for our members with the state legislature, state agencies, banks, foundations, and other allies and intermediaries. We have also designed and implemented several unique capacity-building programs that enhance the ability of our members to achieve meaningful results in their communities. We have built a network of members and professional relationships among the organization's staff that helps to strengthen and sustain the field. During this time, MACDC has become a model that more than 25 states have followed by creating their own CED associations.
MACDC's efforts generally fall into one of the following categories: (1) advocating and organizing for public and private sector support, (2) leading learning initiatives and capacity building programs for our members, and (3) educating policy makers, the media and the general public about the contributions being made by CDCs across the state.
Some of MACDC’s accomplishments include:
· Secured increase in the FY 2008 capital budget for housing, including a 50% increase in the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and a 25% increase in the Housing Stabilization Fund.
· Won passage in 2006 of economic development legislation that includes several key MACDC priorities, including $30 million for Brownfields redevelopment, $2 million for small business technical assistance, $11 million for job training, and $3 million for Adult Basic Education.
· Launched in 2002 the MACDC GOALs Campaign, Growing Opportunities, Assets and Leaders across the Commonwealth, is a multi-year effort to achieve ambitious community development goals. Accomplishments include
- Engaged over 1,700 volunteer community leaders in CDC activities each year;
- Built or preserved 5,186 homes;
- Created or preserved 7,966 job opportunities;
- Provided technical and financial support to 3,925 locally-owned businesses;
